The Opening association, which works to foster the emergence and professionalisation of artists, was given carte blanche by the Château de Servières association to support the participation of a young artist, Pierre Chaillet, in the Panorama zéro exhibition as part of the group exhibition entitled A l’heure du dessin, 6e temps, an exhibition which prolongs the international contemporary drawing fair in Marseille every year.
The exhibition takes its title from a travelogue published in 1967 by Robert Smithson, “A Tour of the Monuments of Passaic“, in which the artist describes the ill-assorted monuments he discovers on an abandoned motorway construction site: “That zero panorama seemed to contain ruins in reverse, that is – all the new construction that would eventually be built“.
It will enable fans of contemporary art to see an original installation by Pierre Chaillet combining works produced between 2016 and 2018 on different media (graphite or ink drawings on paper, screen prints on mirrors, gravure prints on wallpaper), and projected pages about him taken from a digital book in the digital collection entitled Openingbook_Extra.
Who is Pierre Chaillet?
Born in Suresnes in 1990, he lives and works in Marseille. After spending a year at the Shristi School of Art, Design and Technology in Bangalore, India, he graduated with a DNSEP diploma from TALM, the School of Fine Arts of Tours-Angers-Le Mans in 2016. His drawings, which he does exclusively on Vélin d’ARCHES® 300 gsm paper, combine virtuosity with a singular universe.
